The territory,
born after the new configuration of the
Sardinian provinces, comprehends the
historical region of Gallura, the
North-East coast with the famous “Costa
Smeralda”, the Archipelago of “La
Maddalena”, the north part of “Monte
Acuto” region, a small portion of
“Baronia” and the east part of
“Coghinas” lake.
The incredible landscape of this
province, is characterized by vast areas
of cork forest, Mediterranean bush,
woods of holm-oak, Corbezzolo trees and
vineyards. The area is renowned for its
Vermentino wine, one of the best white
worthy of D.O.C.G. Classification.
In the last years Olbia is growing as an
important airport centre as well as a
known harbour City. This success is due
to the increasing number of tourists
attracted by the close “Costa Smeralda”.
But if tourism is font of richness for
the coast, with Olbia as “holiday
capital”, cork, is the first source of
job , develop and grow. The cultivation
of the cork-oak, in fact, is important
especially in Gallura – Tempio Pausania
and Calangianus - where all the cork
processing factories are sited. |
