Middle School
Illorai visits Rally d’Italia Sardegna
Service Park, Olbia
For years, the School D.Filia of Illorai,
which participates in numerous sporting
activities, recognises that sport is of
great educational value. In particular,
the school is aware of the dedication,
commitment, sacrifice, respect of the
rules, and the adversary that exists
behind every champion and his/her team.
It intends to teach these principles to
its students and apply them to classical
education. As a result, the project has
been promoted as “The rally goes to
school” and the school has selected six
pupils who have met the criterions of
conduct, commitment, interest and
scholastic results to participate in the
Rally d’Italia Sardegna.
On Thursday 15
May, before Shakedown, the six selected
students will be accompanied by three
teachers and visit the World Rally
Championship Service Park site at Cala
Saccaia in Olbia.
First, they will
visit the motorhome of the Pirelli, who
are promoting of the initiative.
Sardinian Pirelli technician, Terenzio
Testoni, will explain to the students
all the secrets of the tyres used by the
stars of the World Rally Championship.
Secondly, Ford's Team Manager Malcolm
Wilson will speak to the students
together with drivers Mikko Hirvonen and
Jari-Matti Latvala, in the team’s
motorhome. Following on, Tajima San, the
man responsible for the Japanese team
Suzuki, will host the students with
drivers Toni Gardemeister and PG
Andersson. In the afternoon Subaru
drivers Petter Solberg and Chris
Atkinson will let the students in on
their secrets. The fortunate students
will end the day with an experience of
full immersion in the Service Park
visiting the stands of the Sardinian
crews.
