It is the second
province for extension, the third for
number of inhabitants. This province
faces the Tyrrhenian Sea, comprehends
many kilometres of coast and includes
the following historical regions:
Nuorese, Baronia, Barbagia-Mandrolisai,
Marghine, very similar for historical,
social and cultural traditions.
The territory of this province goes from
the suggestive East cost, passing
through the wild inland, and the highest
mountains; in the middle of this area,
the “Gennargentu” with its 1834 meters
peak called “La Marmora”.
The Chief Town is Nuoro, where the
“Sardinian soul” is still alive, with
its houses made of granite, its arches
and buttresses, sheds and roof-gutters
which create spots of shadow and peace.
Worth mentioning Oliena, laying on the
dolomitic Supramonte, Macomer, with its
Nuraghes, the ancient and suggestive
Bosa, facing the river Terno and Atzara,
famous for its picturesque costumes. |
