It is located at
the botton of “Monte Masiènerre” with it
was For a long time county town of “curatoria”.
Anela is considered one of the oldest
Goceano’s Centres.
By Tradiction Anela was founded by a
Roman Colony, during the Silla period, (it
used to be a “Mansio” or Road Station).
Discoveries have been making since one
century, confirm the Roman presence in
the territory. Nevertheless they exclude
it was a displaced military garrison as
was supposed to be for a long time due
to the recovery of a dismissal (made in
bronze) issued by the emperor Galba to
the soldier “Ursario son of Tornale”.
It is really interesting to visit is the
church of “Nostra Signora di Castro”
erected in the 1162 by the Cistercian
Monks.
The town is surrounded by forests rich
in fauna and rare botanic specimen like
the oak, the yew and the holly. It is
allowed to go camping within the areas
indicated by the Sardinia Department of
Forest. |
