SERVICE PARK AND
ROUTE RALLY d’ITALIA SARDEGNA 2006
Service Park. The first news about Rally
d’Italia Sardegna 2006 will be the
service park location, that will be
again at Cala Saccaia like in 2004,
while the Headqarter of the rally and
the Press Office will be again at the
Archeological Museum. The entrance to
the Service Park will be free of charge,
a choice done in order to bring the
people of Olbia and the Italian and
foreign rally fans near the fascinating
world of rallies, of drivers and of
world rally cars.
Departure and Shakedown. This race will
be the seventh round of the 2006 FIA
World Rally Championship and the fourth
round of the 2006 FIA Junior World Rally
Championship and it will take place from
18 to 21 May 2006. The ceremonial
departure and arrival and the prize
giving will be again in Porto Cervo on
the charming Old Pier of this beautiful
Sardinian town. The Shakedown, for the
last pre-race regulations, will be again
on the gravel roads of “La Crucitta” on
Thursday May 18th. A four kilometers
special stage very similar to the
characteristics of the rally stages and
a service park.
Route. Even this edition of the Rally
d’Italia Sardegna has been designed
trying to optimize the suggestions of
World Rally Championship’s drivers and
team managers. “It will be a medium fast
race, that develops in order to create a
flowing route – said Carlo Cassina,
responsible of the course – We tried as
much as possible, to avoid the narrow
and winding tracts where the cars dig
the surface of the route spoiling it. We
also chose to create a race that will
meet the logistic requirements of the
competitors regarding times and
displacements”. The rally will maintain
its technical difficulties and
characteristics. These characteristics
made this race one of the most technical
races of the World Rally Championship,
as underlined by the fact that the last
three winners were World Rally Champions.
The total number of Special Stages is 18
(9 stages repeated twice) and among them
some new ones. “In the first leg – said
Carlo Cassina – there is a completely
new stage, called Siniscola, located in
the Nuoro area. A medium-fast stage with
some wide parts. The second leg instead
is a cocktail of special stages already
used in the first two editions, while
the third and last leg include two new
special stages used once in the Costa
Smeralda Rally, La Prugnola and e new
version of the Campovaglio stage.
A total length of 1140 km, 345 km of
special stages, the half of which will
be run on the roads of the Sardinian
Forests Organisation.
The entrance to the special stages will
be free of charge as well as the parking
areas that the organizers will provide
next to the special stages for
spectators.
The three legs. The first leg will take
place on Friday May 19th on the gravel
roads of Monte Acuto and will have three
special stages (Terranova, Mamone and
Siniscola) to be repeated twice for a
total of 129 timed kilometers, a total
of 137 timed kilometers. The Siniscola
stage is a new one.
The second leg will take place on
Saturday May 20th and will have six
stages (three to be repeated twice). Two
long ones Loelle (25 km) and Monte Lerno
(31 km) and Filigosu (12 km). The Loelle
special stage will once again pass near
the nuraghe (a special archeological
Sardinian monuments) with the same name,
while at the Monte Lerno stage drivers
will go over two spectacular jumps one
of them known as “The camel humps”.
The third leg on Sunday May 21st will
start with the classic special stage of
San Giacomo and will go on in the area
of Gallura on the gravel roads of La
Prugnola and Campovaglio. The last leg
will be composed of three stages to be
repeated twice, two of them new, for a
