Near to
the people. Near to the increasingly felt
security needs which the Italian society
expresses at all levels in relation to common
and serious crime. This is the main objective of
the State Police.
The security activity carried out by the State
Police in the community is a modern and
well-organised response. More than an
operational response it is a “philosophy” which
characterises the behaviour of the “security
professionals” of the State Police. Proximity
means presence, attentive and constant
participation in the social life, as well as
visibility on the territory. The community
police is the first of the strategic priorities
of the “Security-oriented” Programme.
To this end, the Department of Public Security
guarantees daily - through the 103 Questure on
the territory - the presence of thousands of
patrolling cars. This activity – which is
ensured also by the “emergency call number
service 113”, i.e. the first important link
between the citizen and the police – is carried
out by more and more “specialised” staff in
order to increase the security and protection of
all people and especially of the needy, such as
old and handicapped people.
The State Police activity is therefore
increasingly aimed to guarantee an effective
police presence and visibility on the territory.
In addition to the “Safe parks” project which is
aimed to guarantee security in open spaces and
public parks, the State Police is carrying out
additional important initiatives. Among them the
“Report house collection” service, the “Voice
mail project” and the “Phone reports” service.
Some information campaigns for the young (“Icarus
project”) and the children (“The policeman, one
more friend”) contributed to the success of the
programme “Legality-oriented education” which
involved thousands of minors and schools.
The web site www.poliziadistato.it gives the
citizen a constant flow of information, enabling
him/her to keep directly in contact with the
State Police. The recent introduction of the
“community police” is an important innovation
which falls within the “proximity” strategy
followed in the last years by the State Police
for the protection of the citizen and urban
areas. |
